GLBT-no thank you

heterofauxbia:

I see this used a lot on college campuses, but it really pisses me off when I see acronyms used that are specifically ordered as GLBT. As if gay men needed more precedence in the queer community.

let’s combat queerphobia with patriarchy - sounds great!

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to properly describe the feeling of disappointment I get when I’m reading something with LGBT in the title…

and it ends with (and only ever mentions) “gay men and lesbians.”

This sums up representation of LGBT pretty damn well

Popular representation of “LGBT,” to scale.

Why are LGBT movies always heartbreaking dramas?

I want an LGBT action movie.

Die Hard with A Dick In Your Mouth or something.

a girl in my English class today said, “God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve! I hate gay people!”

I killed her 47 different ways in my head.

RUN FOR SHELTER 2012: “On December 15th, I’m running across the Brooklyn Bridge in high heels to raise money for rebuilding a homeless LGBT Youth Center in NYC that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy, the Ali Forney Center. Will you support me?”

Dear straight people:

dear-straight-people:

Stop doing a quick room sweep before using “gay” as a derogatory word, or calling someone a f**. You have no way of knowing which of your friends might be in the closet or questioning, and if you’re going to be an asshole who uses slurs around presumed straight friends, you might as well do it around anyone so that everyone knows how little you care about LGBTQ* people. That, or tattoo “homophobic asshole” on your forehead.

Katy Perry Perplexingly Honored By Trevor Project For LGBTQ Visibility, I Hope Her Boyfriend Don't Mind It (Autostraddle)

fran-sass:

This perfectly summarizes so many of the feelings I’ve been having lately. I’m sick of everyone patting straight people on the back for supporting equal rights and sweeping all the previous harm they’ve done to the LGBTQ+ community under the rug. You don’t need an award for being a decent human being, especially when you’re not really a decent human being at all.

as much as I love the trevor project……. from the article: “Why does the queer community have to compromise when it comes to advocacy? I get incredibly tired of a dialogue in which we have to overlook certain negative attributes in our heroes and advocates because, at the very least, they have a positive view on some aspect of queerness. I am sick of a world in which we have to ‘take what we can get’ when it comes to advocates, and shower praise on those who have shown the barest amount of human decency as if any other problematic behavior has been made null by virtue of their stance on gay marriage.”
