I never told tumblr about a protest I did a couple weeks ago! so random fundamentalist preachers come to yale’s campus a couple times a semester and preach about sin and damnation and how we need to seek God’s redemption and such. I decided to do a peaceful protest, so I threw on a dress, heels, wig, and bra, wrote “HONK if you LOVE DRAG QUEENS” on a poster, and hustled over to where he was preaching on a street corner. and this was the date of a huge party on campus, so like half the college passed by at some point. basically I spent about an hour eliciting honks from passing cars, and cheers from passing students and new haven residents. my idea was to drown out the sound of hatred with the sound of true love (which is honking at drag queens). about a dozen people asked me to take a picture with them. two self-proclaimed followers of Jesus told me they supported me, and prayed for me, asking for God to keep increasing my courage. it wasn’t all positive of course - I got lots of weird looks, I got called faggot and sinner and pervert, I got two water balloons thrown at me. but far more important was the huge amounts of support, cheers, and honks I got. it was really exciting, humbling, and glitertastic. here’s a pic of me afterwards! :)
